Here's a #protip about snowshoes from an old bush guy I know. I find snowshoe bindings really fiddly and difficult to use without taking off your mittens. And when they break, they're broke. Well, if you have a pair of old-school snowshoes, all you need is a couple of old bicycle inner tubes:
Cut them into lengths. Tie one length into a loop and place it loosely around your ankle. Tie another into an arch that spans across the pivot point of the snowshoe.
Stretch the arch so you can slide your boot under it, letting it rest tightly against your toe cap. Now grab the loop and stretch it forward, over the toe of your boot so that it rests underneath the tread.
The arch keeps your boot firmly attached to the snowshoe and the loop keeps your boot under the arch.
