It's great, as Walk Kelly usually is.
Don't avoid it because you think it will be obscure dated 1960s political references. Kelly was a master of addressing multiple audiences at the same time, adults and children, political and apolitical. Not recognizing a caricature will not get in the way of enjoying the story.
Fun Used Book...

The centaur character is called "The Lone Arranger", shakes everybody's hand, and bears a suspicious resemblance to #LBJ.

Too soon we breast the tape and too late we realize the fun lay in the running. We deny that the end justifies the means without ever stopping to consider that for practical purposes the End and the Means are one and the same thing. If there is to be any satisfaction in life it must come in transit, for who can tell when he will be struck down in mid-method?

Walt Kelly was a well-known cartoonist in the U.S. in the 1950s and 60s. Political #satire, the Pogo #cartoon appeared in numerous newspapers. I grew up with a tattered book from an older family member that featured this version of a Christmas song.
It was also from a powerful Walt Kelly Pogo cartoon that the phrase used by the environmental movement "We have met the enemy and he is us!" came from. (Technically, it was derived from some similar phrase earlier in history, but Kelly's cartoon was about the environment).
A number of his verses were set to music and released in an album. They are on YouTube -- Walk Kelly sings the first one, Go-Go #Pogo.
He was a master of nonsense verse and word play.
Enjoy! #WaltKelly #artist
