It’s been a day of two halves. Snowdrops and lemon cake at Howick Hall this morning, followed by an 11 mile hike in the hills this afternoon, where I heard my first skylark of the season.

The fanciful naming of these lands might lead visitors to expect to find a fairytale forest when hiking here. True, we didn't expect to encounter any mythical creatures hiking here, but we were surprised to find that there's no forest either..
Walking along an old railroad bed rebuilt into a walking trail, came across this beautiful and strangely spherical nest, about 5 feet above the ground. It looks like a vase.
16km beach walk. I did not plan for it to be that long. Walking is my meditation and it seems I needed a long stank to reset my brain. The news makes me so angry. Sometimes I need to remind myself to take moments where I narrow my focus closer to my immediate surroundings.
So here’s some funky patterns in the sand.
A pretty pleasant 15C/60F for today's 13.6km/8.4mi walk. Wasn't blazing fast at 8'57" per km nor was it very exercisey at a lightly moderate 110 BPM (73%).
That's it for now, carry on. Thanks for reading.

LEAVE NO TRACE?
Nice article in the Alpkit advertising mag (I love this company).
I'll quote a paragraph, from Alastair Humphreys, but the whole is in the photograph.
"There's an irony in the phrase 'Leave No Trace'. Of course, we should tread lightly - packing out our rubbish, respecting wildlife, and not tramping wildflowers. But what if, instead of leaving no trace, we made more effort to leave a positive trace? A smile to a stranger. A cleaned-up fire pit. A friendly conversation with a farmer. Instead of sneaking through the land as if we don't belong what if we walked through it as caretakers?

Clear, deep green water under the falls
I've caught a variety of fish from this creek, trout, bass, suckers, sunfish, etc. But I'm realizing that I've never caught a fallfish, the fallfish, a type of fish that appears everywhere, anytime, in my area
It's strange
Maybe I've actually caught them... or did I?
I've joined a #walking group, and today we had absolutely perfect weather! Cool air with bright clear skies and fantastic sunshine!

Well it was a nice 5C/41F for today's 13.7km/8.5mi walk. A sluggish 9'13" per km with a lightly moderate 108 BPM (72%).
Slept an hour later than usual, forgot sunglasses, never hit my stride, brain refused enter the zen zone. Is there a list of how much other countries are charging for citizenship? Asking for me.
