The Microsoft SoftCard for the Apple II: Getting two processors to share the same memory

The Microsoft Z-80 SoftCard was a plug-in expansion card for the Apple II that added the ability to run CP/M software. According to Wikipedia, it was Microsoft’s first hardware product and in 1980 was the single largest revenue source for the company.

Last week, I had the pleasure of working with Children’s Capital of Culture in Rotherham for an amazing project — the 8-Bit Jam!

We introduced children to the magic of making music using vintage 8-bit video game machines, transforming classic technology into creative musical instruments. It was inspiring to see how curiosity and play can come together to create something truly unique.

A huge thank you to Rotherham and the entire team for letting me be part of this incredible initiative! 💡✨

The Death Screens of Conan

Conan: Hall of Volta was my favorite Apple II game, way back when, and probably still is today. A nice touch was that you were treated to a bit of a (often snide...) poetic sendoff upon your death. I remember many of these, but not all.

Thanks Ken!
