Gritty, authentic, and surreal. A vivid, unfiltered account of one soldier's experience in the Vietnam War. Fresh out of college and caught in the draft, Glazer tries out for special training on a whim, succeeds beyond his wildest dreams, and eventually winds up leading a Special Operations Team. Thrown into a world of madness, where for some the only escape is death, Glazer finds a way to survive, but he is not unscathed by the war. The stories are raw and graphic in describing dangerous missions as well as down time spent in a country where violence and chaos rule.

On 20 June 1967 Muhammad Ali was convicted for refusing the Vietnam Draft. The judge handed down the maximum sentence to Cassius Clay (as they insisted upon calling him in court): five-years in a federal penitentiary and a $10,000 fine. The Supreme Court overturned Ali’s conviction in 1971 after the consensus on the war had changed profoundly.

The 12 years spanning 1957 to 1968 were a period of great societal tumult & revolution, especially over #race & the #VietnamWar. Of the 8 deployments, 2 were to enforce #desegregation court orders, most famously at #LittleRock, #Arkansas, in 1957. 4 were to quell riots, 3 of which were part of the numerous outbreaks across the country that followed the #assassination of #MartinLutherKingJr in 1968.
