I was sad to see the Uzbek restaurant I loved close on Sutter St (Halal Dastarkhan) but a new spot serving the same food opened in its place. Hopefully the new owners will get the service and food issues sorted (Halal Dastarkhan opened early Covid and always struggled a bit)

This one looks like it kept all the good stuff and added a lot more homemade breads

I love the plov and the samsa

Today was a day of Indonesian-Uzbek music diet...and while many of readers of Indokult know FOR REVENGE which has formed the "Indo" part, from the #uzbekistan comes an artist, who will probably be an enigma to the majority of folks not familiar with #uzbek music scene (yeah, I am in that group too, I will admit).
However, Qodirjon Ahmedov with his song "Ov" quickly got my full attention. With fusion of movie soundtrack-like music (which bring up the memories of the 1970s crime thrillers) and the pressing, graspy vocals recalling the folk bards of yesterday... well, check this song out on Youtube and tell me, if I am wrong.

#NewSilkRoad

#Samarkand was a major #SilkRoad trading hub for more than 2,500 years. Now, the #Uzbek city has a major new tourism complex.

Wonder if Samarkand aspires to rival or dethrone #Mecca as a #religious travel destination as well:

"Shah-i-Zinda is Samarkand's holiest site," … the giant #necropolis dedicated to Qasim Ibn Abbas, cousin of the Prophet #Muhammad, who was responsible for bringing #Islam to this part of the world in the 7th Century.
