This Is My GlasgowThe surviving elements of the late 1970s Garnethill Mural Project established by the artist John Kraska, who died earlier this week. This Is My GlasgowGhost tenement on Tollcross Road in Glasgow. This Is My GlasgowUnfortunately, we seem to have failed to learn from past mistakes, and once again such buildings are rapidly swamping Glasgow's tradtional architecture, much to the detriment of the city's unique feel. Yes, Glasgow cannot remain the same forever, but new buildings can still pay homage to its architectural traditions, fit in with the existing streetscapes, and and be uniquely Glaswegian, as long as the city's planning department has the willingness to demand it <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#glasgow</a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/urbanregeneration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#urbanregeneration</a>

This Is My GlasgowTwo contrasting corners on Waterloo Street in Glasgow, one on either side of its junction with Blythswood Street. The northeastern corner retains its typically Glaswegian sandstone buildings, while the traditional buildings to the west were cleared in the 1960s as part of the Anderston Comprehensive Development Area. They have now been replaced by rather generic and non-descript modern buildings which could be anywhere in the world. This was the first major development in the regeneration of the Merchant City area in Central Glasgow. This Is My GlasgowYou might might think that they'd make up or this by being havens for wildlife and food sources for pollinators, but as an invasive non-native species such large areas of buddleja monoculture do not seen to attract wildlife in any sort of numbers. This Is My GlasgowSaint Ninian Terrace in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. While this is a relatively new building (dating from the 1990s), it incorporates a number of classic characteristics of Glasgow's traditional architecture, including recessed corner bay windows, a lantern on a feature corner roof, and sweeping curved lines.
