GimpyGurl<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://flipboard.social/@CultureDesk" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>CultureDesk</span></a></span> Oh boy, just heard the Holdovers writer, a Yale legacy educated, former lawyer now world traveling screenwriter on <a href="https://disabled.social/tags/TrailersFromHell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrailersFromHell</span></a> and it was unsettling. Did you know his father took a Chaucer seminar at Yale with the president of Yale, the president of Yale who is Paul Giamatti's father? Came off as preppy uh elitist at best</p>
mgray<p>Phantom from 10,000 Leagues (1955) - 0/4 - As <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JoeDante" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>JoeDante</span></a> points out in a <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/TrailersFromHell" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TrailersFromHell</span></a> episode, the Phantom/monster is only ever shown a couple of meters underwater, not 10,000. It is historically interesting that the film was paired with the early <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/RogerCorman" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RogerCorman</span></a> picture, The Day the World Ended. Though I haven&#39;t found anything to indicate this, it&#39;s also possible that Phantom&#39;s awfulness got spoofed to a degree in Corman&#39;s later <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Creature" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Creature</span></a> send-up, The Creature from the Haunted Sea.</p>
