How much of the settlement is PBOT+TriMet paying? How much the country club? Also note the city renews the liquor/beer license of every business once a year, regardless of the availability or quality of bike parking or surplus of car parking and lack of bike infrastructure at the location. ffs [and also fuck the O] archive.is/LZxzu#selection-223 "claims against the club and local governments were dismissed without money changing hands"

#trafficEngineering is not a profession, #BanCars ban #stroads

The riding-your-bike-somewhere to firing-traffic-engineers pipeline is so very fucking short, I know people aren't riding their bikes enough. #FuckCars #BanCars #trafficEngineering #defundDOTs #BikeTooter

Bluesky Social · @cranemonster.bsky.socialYep! I live in Koreatown and at first I was annoyed by the bikes, but when I was still recovering from a broken foot, I tried those rental Metro bikes and was like, "Oh hell no to riding on Wilshire..." I do wish people would ring their bell more, it's not rude.

😞 Constant warning bells for no reason and bike-shaped traffic lights nobody pays any attention to because most of the time they are telling you to wait forever while nobody goes by. The train alarms come down like 45s before the max or sometimes they're down for a stopped heavy rail train that blocks the crossing for hours... #VisionZero #ZeroVision #trafficEngineering #transit #pdxBikes SE 8th near Division

#FietsProfessor says the past 100yrs of #trafficEngineering seems like it was set in stone. The language we use shapes the way people think, "traffic jam / clog" is the language of sewage. And "closing streets" to cars creates #openStreets for children. Also most people find #transportation boring but #freeRangeKids, #SchoolStreets, #BikeBus capture more attention. Make #trafficEngineers argue against the idea of #AutonomousChildren not #Cyclists. @TheWarOnCars

Since 2022 people from #Freiburg are regularly demonstrating against #cartraffic in the Rempartstraße and request that the street becomes #carfree. The street lies in the middle of the central #university campus connecting several institutes, libraries and the central canteen.

Large #crowds of people move through the street by foot or by #bicycle, especially during lunch time. Unfortunately the Rempartstraße also provides access to two parking garages so there is a lot of car traffic and a high #safety risk for #pedestrians.

During a #traffic experiment in 2022 the situation improved, despite the fact that car access was only limited in one direction and many cars disregarded the rules. However due to increasing #congestion at the #parking garages the experiment was cancelled early and ever since car traffic is back to normal.

Making the Rempartstraße completely car free is an important step for Freiburg in becoming a more #sustainable, safer and more livable #city. Rather than seeing the parking garages as a prohibiting factor for the pedestrian friendly #development the protestors suggest a conversion into #bikeparking, #apartments or #publicameneties. Poeple, not cars should have priority here!

(3) This is a positive example from #Basel of how a #street can be set up to be better for #people and less attractive for #cars:

The #sidewalks are nice and wide and, while there is on street parking further down, two #bike parking islands are placed on either side. Not only do these mostly keep parked bicycles from the sidewalk, they also slow down car #traffic and provide seating options and #greenery.
