On July 3rd, 1973, David Bowie performed a concert at the Hammersmith in London, where he shocked the crowd by announcing the end of the band. While he was referring to the Spiders from Mars and associated persona, it still whipped the crowd into a frenzy of disbelief and shock.
It's easy to find the concert online today and remains a shocking testament to David Bowie's creative vision and ability to electrify a crowd with a combination of costuming, dance, mime, and absolute raw vocal power.
I celebrate every July 3rd as David Bowie Day.
