TONIGHT on @labr, the GLORIOUS RETURN of #ThePlaylist after its SEVEN DAY hiatus.

This week's theme:

They Coulda Been A Contender!

And really, they coulda been. Two hours of one hit wonders, and bands who released a bunch of albums, but never quite managed to conquer the world the way they should have.

As ever, all tracks are chosen by the listeners. It's the only radio show that belongs to the #Fediverse.

@DJDarren I feel I need to return the favour, and so I point you towards this, which I see is now (good heavens) more than two decades old!

I loved this podcast, and I still love its presenters. And I particularly loved this episode, which touched on an obscure and possibly even fictional musical genre that seems - at least to me - as though it would sit happily in the mind of anybody who enjoys #ThePlaylist.

Me catching up with and chilling to last night's #ThePlaylist on the theme "Flat"

I failed to get my suggestion in this time, but I can usually trust several other listeners are on the same wavelength 😉

Mellow Candle was an Irish progressive folk rock band formed around three young female singers who met at a Dublin convent school. They had two singles and one album, Swaddling Songs. They broke up, in debt, in 1973.

Swaddling Songs later became a cult LP and Stephen Malkmus covered The Poet and The Witch, which is my favourite from the album.

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist

I was reminded of a band that I used to love, who I assumed would go stratospheric, only for them to, well, not. So with that in mind, next week's theme is:

They coulda been a contender

Fling your also-rans at me. Your one-hit wonders who had whole albums worth of quality tunes, but who were cruelly ignored by the pop-picking-people. Use the tag #ThePlaylistSuggestion to ensure I can find it.
