Different ThanI am so damn proud of my daughter. I mean, I often am, but right now for a specific reason. They made a presentation for 8th grade social studies ("anything about WWII") that focused on female Soviet snipers and the Nachthexen (nightwitches), women who flew beat-up, decades-old, flimsy planes on extremely dangerous missions in German territory and bombed the shit out the Nazis. The Nazis gave them the name, apparently, because (to quote my kid): "Sometimes the only sound of their planes, flying only a few feet off the ground in near total darkness, was a soft whooshing that reminded the Nazi soldiers of witches' brooms. Also, you know, men. women. They're scary so all we can think of is witches."They went far beyond "here are some facts."
