[Editorial] It’s easy to disregard the dead. They don’t have the ability to move you along if you’re loitering where you aren’t wanted. They have no control their own physical bodies any longer, nor over the space where they are interred. They can’t opt out of your pictures. They can’t tell you no.

The Wild Hunt · Editorial: Honoring the DeadBy Stacy Psaros

Anyone who cares about #literature, #JamesJoyce or the historic fabric of #Dublin, should mind this:

A developer, who trousered €130 million of public money by exploiting the most vulnerable people in Ireland, now wants to turn the Usher's Island house of Joyce's story "The Dead" (also the location of John Huston's film), into "mundane" apartments.

Write to the planning authorities and Dublin City Council.

1) This evening cohost Martin Nutty will be celebrating #NollaignamBan, aka #LittleChristmas, aka the Feast of the #Epiphany, aka the 12th day of Christmas, by watching #JohnHouston’s 1987 screen adaption of #JamesJoyce’s #TheDead.

If you haven’t read the story, the concluding piece from Joyce’s #ShortStory collection, #Dubliners, do yourself a favor and give it a read or watch the #movie. Both are masterworks set in #Dublin in 1904 on January 6th

Being contrarian here.

Your brother was right on about there being a last day - that's the last day I'll have any say in what happens.

Dead people continue on as social constructs* for a while - George Washington is still around in some manner - just he gets no say, no influence, in how we have him around.

*Or have I used the wrong term and they're not social constructs?
If not then who are the dead? Or is that better stated as "What are the dead?".

The Haight on TV
