Neither are the companies treating the water. The bill also protects landowners who pay to treat the water and sell it, including in cases of personal injury, death, or property damage.
>
>...
>
>Dan Mueller, an engineer and a produced water expert, agreed that there is not enough data to issue permits. Life-threatening, the bill specifies, means “capable of causing death or potentially fatal. A life-threatening physical condition is not necessarily one actively injuring the patient.”
>
>One example described in a committee meeting is of a pregnant woman who has cancer, which is expected to become life-threatening over weeks or months if she is unable to be treated due to her pregnancy. Under this clarifying bill, a doctor could perform an abortion even though she is not facing an emergent risk of death.

Better than nothing, but still leaves the door open for litigious actors to wreak havoc in the courts over whether or not any particular intervention ultimately meets the standard. Cosmic Librarian
Texas is poised to make measles a nationwide epidemic, public health experts say

Public health experts say Texas needs better messaging on vaccinations and quarantining and more people conducting contact tracing to contain the spread.

I worked with vaccines in Texas in public health...this is true. I was tasked with promoting and educating the public and providers on vaccines, but they had 'rules' that prevented that and I was a thorn in their side. But I also received two awards for my work from the county and the state, that no one had ever gotten before...but don't tell anyone. They appreciated that I did the right thing, but...🤫

I've also done contact tracing during food-borne outbreaks and pertussis out breaks...you need a lot of people to do that, something that public health is lacking in funding and people to do the job.

#TexasTribune #measles #publicmessaging #publichealth

https://www.texastribune.org/2025/03/21/texas-measles-vaccine-new-mexico-oklahoma-us/
