True LaTeX must be processed with an engine (installed locally or remotely on a server) to be rendered, similar to compiling source code. It builds on <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/TikZ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#TikZ</a> and brings in lots of things you want as basic functionality. In pure tikz you would have to put in some work to get such behavior.

Frederik ElwertI've got a weird <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/TeXLaTe%CE%A7" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#TeXLaTeΧ</a> question and I'm curious if <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/AskFedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#AskFedi</a> can help: I want to typeset <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Persian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#Persian</a> text, but when I try to load <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/farsi" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#farsi</a> with <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/babel" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#babel</a>, I get an "There is no ini file for the requested language" message. The babel GitHub repo has babel-fa.ini, and it's in texlive-latex-base, but I can't find a way to install it into my minimal system with tlmgr, since CTAN has no babel-farsi or babel-persian package. Any ideas?

NightDiceSo, update on my <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/TeXLaTe%CE%A7" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#TeXLaTeΧ</a> journeys:It turns out that the transitions are just part of PDF since 1.5 and that's why Beamer supports them. The issue seems to be that not every PDF viewer supports them yet, so it's still limited.Regarding playing animations and films in Beamer, the feature relies heavily on using pdflatex to compile, since it was put together by someone ~20 years ago and will not be fixed for other compilers.

If I choose "equation", the environment together with a label is inserted:\begin{equation} \label{eq:1} \end{equation}I know that I can define new environments using LaTeX-add-environments, and for example, after (LaTeX-add-environments '("definition")), this environment is offered in completion.
