Joe Heafner<p>BEWARE of any software claiming to “support LaTeX.” It’s almost always MathJax, Markdown, or KaTeX instead, and these are not LaTeX. True LaTeX must be processed with an engine (installed locally or remotely on a server) to be rendered, similar to compiling source code. Merely having commands beginning with a backslash does not qualify as LaTeX. <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/TeXLaTe%CE%A7" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TeXLaTeΧ</span></a> <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/TeXAndLaTeX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TeXAndLaTeX</span></a></p>

It builds on <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/TikZ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TikZ</span></a> and brings in lots of things you want as basic functionality. In pure tikz you would have to put in some work to get such behavior.</p>

West Coast Birder<p>Science/math/engineering peeps who use LaTeX, do you use an online editor like Overleaf or a local editor on your computer? I’ve been going back and forth between Overleaf and TexStudio, torn between the fear of a hard drive meltdown and fear of loss of connectivity. 😀<br><a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/LaTeX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LaTeX</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/irrationalfears" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>irrationalfears</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/TeXLaTe%CE%A7" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TeXLaTeΧ</span></a></p>

Frederik Elwert<p>I&#39;ve got a weird <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/TeXLaTe%CE%A7" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TeXLaTeΧ</span></a> question and I&#39;m curious if <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/AskFedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>AskFedi</span></a> can help: I want to typeset <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Persian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Persian</span></a> text, but when I try to load <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/farsi" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>farsi</span></a> with <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/babel" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>babel</span></a>, I get an &quot; There is no ini file for the requested language&quot; message. The babel GitHub repo has babel-fa.ini, and it&#39;s in texlive-latex-base, but I can&#39;t find a way to install it into my minimal system with tlmgr, since CTAN has no babel-farsi or babel-persian package. Any ideas?</p>
NightDice<p>So, update on my <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/TeXLaTe%CE%A7" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TeXLaTeΧ</span></a> journeys:</p><p>It turns out that the transitions are just part of PDF since 1.5 and that's why Beamer supports them.<br>The issue seems to be that not every PDF viewer supports them yet, so it's still limited.</p><p>Regarding playing animations and films in Beamer, the feature relies heavily on using pdflatex to compile, since it was put together by someone ~20 years ago and will not be fixed for other compilers.</p>
