No new big updates on the #SunshineWildlandFire. Evacuation zones haven't changed from the overnight period.

It took until about 9pm for the winds to die down according to the weather station at the NCAR Mesa Lab. Winds are generally from the northwest between 5–10 mph.

The aviation forecast for Rocky Mountain Metro indicates winds will be at about that level most of the day, so that should hopefully allow for better containment. A 4-hour period tomorrow is marked for increased wind activity.

Boulder friends - were you able to stay informed abt #SunshineWildlandFire yesterday (and still now) here on mastodon?

it seems a lot of us went over to twitr to monitor Mitchell Byers' scanner reporting.

i appreciate Mitchell's work - truly - but he can't be the only one with an emergency scanner (is it an actual scanner or a service like broadcastify.com/ ?)

"We do not anticipate lifting the mandatory evacuation order or road closures for the #SunshineWildlandFire overnight. Currently, an estimated 457 residents remain evacuated from 167 homes. Firefighters remain on the scene fighting the fire. If there are any changes to the evacuation orders, residents will be informed via an Everbridge alert and all alerts are posted at boulderoem.com under View Recent Emergency Alerts" #SanitasFire #SunshineFire

Unless there are major changes, this will be my last #SunshineWildlandFire update of the night #BoulderFire

Crews are on scene actively fighting the wildland fire

The original structure fire that triggered the wildland fire appears to be extinguished but still smoldering.

The ZoneHaven map has been reliably updated all day: aware.zonehaven.com/hazards/6f

City of Boulder has lifted the evacuation warning for neighborhoods east of Sunshine Canyon, but there are roadblocks in place at a few of the westbound routes into the fire zone, including on Linden and Mapleton. Smoke readings are reduced in the urban neighborhoods west of the fire but still high right up near the canyon.

Chanukah on Pearl has been MOVED from the Pearl Street Mall to the Boulder JCC (6007 Oreg Ave. Boulder, CO 80303). From 5:30 - 7:30 pm TONIGHT (December 19). boulderjcc.org

Wind has been consistently 20mph with gusts to 40mph all day. Relative humidity is extremely low, even for a normal Boulder winter. #COwx archive.eol.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/w
