Locked out of #Stocard? Considering switching to an app like #Catima? You may be able to still access your Stocard cards directly!

According to Italian video creator "IT Problem Solver", it seems Stocard's expiry is based on device time. So: change your phone's date, screenshot those barcodes, and add them to Catima! :) youtube.com/watch?v=hrsEiMjoQT

Alternatively, if you have the patience and live in Europe, email support@stocardapp.com to ask for an export of your data and import it directly!

#Stocard, a popular loyalty card app, is shutting down and moving all their data to something called Klarna, which requires an account and internet access.

Hell no.

Took me 10 minutes to find a new card app (#Catima). Not as polished, but very simple and fully functional.

#DataPrivacy is extremely important. Do not give up your privacy for convenience if you can help it.

Ever since #Stocard started shutting down their app in favour of the #Klarna app, forcing users to migrate, I've seen a lot of people trying to move to #Catima.

Of course, this is great! Sadly, the importer broke at the worst possible moment: github.com/CatimaLoyalty/Andro

So if you're helping friends and family migrate or are migrating yourself, please keep this bug and workaround in mind!

(And if you're a #zip4j or replacement library expert, help is very welcome!)

GitHubStocard / Klarna APP import failed · Issue #2096 · CatimaLoyalty/AndroidBy heximing

For a number of years, I have used the #Stocard loyalty card app on Android. Somewhere along the line it was aquired by #Klarna

Until recently, it worked faultlessly but over the past couple of months it has been almost unusable with card details failing to appear and/or the app timing out and hanging. It retrieves the information from a server each time rather than storing it locally, so I suspect that the issue is with the server.

I've requested my information from them so I can import it to #Catima but although their support claims to have sent the file twice in emails, I haven't received either. I've even provided them with an alternative email address.

Has anyone else had dealings with them? It's getting on for 30 days since I made the request, so I will have the option of making a complaint to the DPC here in Ireland. But it seems like a lot of effort just to get a file to import.

Fun fact about #Stocard:

Every single time you open a loyalty card, it'll log your GPS coordinates and send them to Stocard (now Klarna) servers.

See extracts/users/X/loyalty-cards/X/usages/X/content.json, it is formatted as such (some data retracted by me):

{
"gps_location": {
"accuracy": 17.43
"delay": 43
"geohash": [retracted]
"lat": [retracted]
"lng": [retracted]
},
"time": {
"value": "2023-07-21T11:56:24.682Z"
}
}

I'm glad I started #Catima, sheesh...

If anyone is wondering how well #GDPR enforcement works, here is my experience so far:

May 3rd 2021: After #Stocard has been generally unhelpful for months, I filed a GDPR complaint about #Article20 with my local (Dutch) #DPA.
May 22nd 2023: I receive a letter from the German DPA stating that they contacted Stocard.
July 21st 2023: Stocard sends me a new export which does include store names (yay!) but still omits barcode types (boo!).

So, over 2 years for a partial fix to their export format.
