Richard Jones<p>Not everyday that you identify a hitherto unrecognised class of archaeological site. I present to you, the workings from which materials to build <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/river" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>river</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/embankments" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>embankments</span></a> were extracted. Shallow, sub-rectangular cuttings. Three examples I identified today at <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Fiskerton" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Fiskerton</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Rolleston" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Rolleston</span></a> and <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Staythorpe" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Staythorpe</span></a> on the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/RiverTrent" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RiverTrent</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Notinghamshire" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Notinghamshire</span></a>. Interesting, one working per <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/parish" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>parish</span></a>, suggesting <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/local" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>local</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/community" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>community</span></a> involvement. Ground <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/photographs" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>photographs</span></a> with <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/LiDAR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LiDAR</span></a> plots. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Archaeology" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Archaeology</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/PostMedieval" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PostMedieval</span></a></p>
