#Sportsball #DerbyCounty make their return to championship football this evening at home to Preston North End. A win win will move Derby out of the relegation places. I know most of my mastodon friends will not attach the same significance to this as I do, but it is significant, in more powerful that you can possibly comprehend. But then there's also the habit that Derby have of spurning the big moment whenever the big moment arrives.....

Ally McCoist on TNT commentary saying that United are playing well and I have to question his sanity or my eyes because the TV coverage I'm watching is basically Sunday League incompetence from United. They're stuck on the tippy-tappy triangles passing out from the back nonsense and Forest are just "oh, thanks, we'll have that ball" almost every time. Also everything is - say it with me - slow and turgid and loose. It's like watching a racehorse trying to run a race wearing a deep sea diving outfit.

Elanga, on the other hand, gets the ball near his own area, takes the ball forwards on his own, and gets Forest a throw-in well into the United half. Good job United got rid of him - don't want any of that going on!

I think if this is the quality of Tuchel's England going forward, people will be begging for Southgate to come back. Grinding out an unconvincing win against Albania (with a friendly ref) does not bode well for when they come up against anyone in the top 30 of the world rankings.

(Although if you listen to ITV's commentary, this is basically the greatest football team performing the greatest football win and Tuchel should basically be crowned King RIGHT NOW.)

How many times this season has a goal like Newcastle's disallowed second been given? Absolutely zero consistency. Mind you, Trippier's "handball" would have been given against some teams. PGMOL might as well be a Magic 8 Ball.

If I was Højlund, I'd be begging for a summer transfer. He's making good runs into space and people are still opting for pointless long distance shots instead of passing to him. Unless Amorim puts his foot down and starts laying down the law to the people not passing to him, he's better off out of it because - through no fault of his own - he's essentially a wasted spot on the team.

(It's not specific to Højlund's troubles, really - there's an almost complete lack of football intelligence in this current team. Almost always choosing the wrong option. It's maddening to watch.)

And, of course, as a result of giving the ball away in their own half, Real Sociedad have an attack which forces a mistake from de Ligt (I think he slips and it didn't warrant a yellow) and is a cheap penalty. Not even 8 minutes on the clock and they've gifted Sociedad the lead. Absolute frothing gibbering brain dead nonsense.

Within the first six minutes United have given the ball away a few times - all in their own half - most of them leading to Real Sociedad attacking the goal three or four times. Playing out from the back when you're not 100% on top of control and passing accuracy is flagrant insanity and the manager should be changing the tactics. Lob it up into the opposition half and then if you do lose it, you're not three steps from conceding. This is not rocket science, Ruben!

On the plus side, Garnacho has done a cross. I mean, it went straight out and nowhere near a United player but it's a small divot of progress.
