SOON… We have beautiful sunshine this morning in Edale, but as usual a mountain weather forecast that suggests it's not necessarily going to last for the runner's heading out from the foot of the Pennine Way today… #SummerSpine #SpineRace

Looking to see if John Kelly had written about this year's #BM100, I've just read his write-up of the 2025 #SpineRace.
A really interesting read which discusses motivation, mental strength and the price to be paid in winning. I'd forgotten about his 13 minute time penalty.
@Beclfc I agree, following hashtags is a great feature of Mastodon and really enhances my feed. I don't even know if it was possible on the platform I used to use.
I'm have some permanent hashtags which I follow all the time and some which I follow for a period then remove. I enjoy it when an annual event I'd forgotten about, like the #SpineRace, comes round again and reappears in my feed.
Yay!! Dave 119 has finished the #SpineRace !!!
Good morning, Dotwatchers! We’re in the final 24 hours of the #spinerace, with 31 runners still on course. We’ve got the kettle on, so settle in for a final day of finishers…
Dave Brown's piece to camera, in the latest Spine Race video update, reminded me I must get around to doing the dusting. What a brilliant off the cuff tribute to his friend. So I sent Dave a quick message of appreciation and support. #SpineRace
It's got to that stage in the #SpineRace #DotWatching that I'm not sure I should go to bed.
Will 179 catch up with 133?
Maybe 144 and 225 will catch up with 179?
I suppose I could set an alarm for every 30 minutes so I can check. #SleepMonsters
An absolutely gob smacking video. I know some of the countryside this "race" goes across, and it's very very tough. Some beautiful scenes. #Montane #SpineRace #PennineWay #running

The #SpineRace official account is now bridged to the fediverse.
You can follow @spinerace.bsky.social
I think only the initial posts, not replies, are bridged but if you click on the post you get taken to Bluesky where you can see the replies.
Edit: Make sure you follow the bridged account (shown here with spaces to show the full path): @spinerace . bsky . social @ bsky . brid .gy
John Kelly has a time penalty.
Penalty: Advantage gained from failing to follow Cauldron Snout Diversion 00:26:00
Dotwatching Spine Race like there's no tomorrow.
Front runners in the Pennine Way Spine Race which passed through my corner of the world yesterday. 260 odd miles along the Pennine Way in winter! The record is around 72 hours!! #spinerace #photography #people #snow #winter
As I tuck myself up in my warm bed, legs slightly sore from today's long run, my thoughts turn to runners on the Pennine Way. While I sleep they will be heading North in the snow and freezing conditions on their first (of many) nights. Nutters the lot of them. #SpineRace #DotWatching #BritainsMostBrutal
Gave us immense respect for all those starting the #SpineRace. Speaking of which, if you haven’t been watching dots already this weekend then here are the dots and here are the daily update videos. It’s brutally had running in this snow, and it’s only going to get worse when it thaws on Tuesday!
I’ve never heard of the #SpineRace but now I have, all I can say is… the utmost respect to those crazy people who’re setting off tomorrow morning, and I hope they’re all ok in a week’s time.
What a race!

My annual opportunity to ponder whether I could ever have the mental and physical strength to finish ....... then I wake up, fetch another cup of tea and a biscuit, and watch some more dots!
