Wendy Higgins and Robert Ross argue that the "Reading the mind in the eyes test" is overdue for retirement, writing for The Transmitter: thetransmitter.org/spectrum/it

Even aside from whether the test is internally valid, which they convincingly argue it is not, it also just prima facie doesn't measure theory of mind. Associating facial expressions with emotional words isn't a theory of mind task. #neuroscience #psychology #SocialNeuroscience

New #neuroscience paper published in cell

Ventromedial hypothalamus neurons in the mouse hypothalamus represents aggression performed by self and others.

Their activity is essential for fighting and forced activation of these cells triggers aggressive displays by mice, even toward their mirror image.

Together, Yang et al., have discovered a mirroring center in an evolutionarily ancient region that provides a subcortical cognitive substrate essential for a social behavior.

#introduction 2/3
I study arm reaching-grasping behaviors and speech production/perception, but sometimes I also have fun doing something with solo and ensemble musicians!
#Brain #MotorControl #SpeechScience #SpeechPerception #MusicNeuroscience #SocialNeuroscience
I use Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (#TMS), Motion Capture (#MoCap), Electroencephalography (#EEG), Electromyography (#EMG) and all sorts of force/touch sensors I can get my hands on.

Is it too late for an #introduction for my first toot?!

I'm Jo, a postdoc in the Social Decision Neuroscience Lab (led by @thepsychologist) @thechbh Uni of Birmingham, UK.

I use techniques from #cognitiveneuroscience #socialneuroscience like #fMRI and #computational #modelling to understand #prosocial #decision-making and #kindness plus how these choices differ with #age across the #lifespan

Think that's enough hashtags for now, I can't believe there are still characters left!

Hi, I just moved to the fediscience server, so I guess I have to introduce myself again. I am a clinical psychologist. Me and my group at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim are doing research on the neurobiology of mental disorders and its psychotherapeutical treatment. Our main research areas are #CognitiveNeuroscience , #AffectiveNeuroscience and #SocialNeuroscience and our main research methods are #fMRI, #MEG and behavioral measures. I am also a #psychotherapist.

Howdy! I am a social psychologist/neuroscientist at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. My lab studies cognition and emotion of self-related processes (e.g., self-affirmation and self-regulation). I have six excellent undergrads working with me, two of which will be going to SPSP 2023! I teach social psychology, social neuroscience, and research methods.
