The debate goes on. I see the Fortean Times has also picked up on it in their latest issue, which should make interesting reading. The old radiocarbon dating result has apparently been put into question after newer data was acquired using more accurate dating techniques.
Whatever your opinion, no one’s cleared up the mystery, and I doubt they ever will.

"In the latest study, researchers from Italy’s Institute of Crystallography of the National Research Council applied a technique called wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) to date the shroud. This method analyzes the natural aging of flax cellulose, converting it into a timeline from the fabric’s manufacture. [...] This analysis aligns the shroud’s origin with the first century AD".

The ArchaeologistNew Findings Reinforce the Authenticity Debate of the Turin ShroudThe Shroud of Turin, a linen cloth revered by many as the burial shroud of Jesus Christ, has mystified scholars and believers alike for centuries. Er, I beg to differ. He looks #French, not #Semitic. IMO, that's #JacquesDeMolay, Grandmaster of the #KnightsTemplar. Long story, which I will not get into here. Suffice it to say, via #Carbon14 dating, the #Shroud came into "existence" some time in the 14th century. Interestingly, and in my belief, not coincidentally, that's when #KingPhilippe of #France had him arrested (October 13, 1307) and later burned at the stake (March 18,1314).

This study focuses on the aging of #FlaxCellulose and compares it to the time since the product was manufactured.

"The data profiles were fully compatible with analogous measurements obtained on a linen sample whose dating, according to historical records, is 55-74 AD, found at #Masada, #Israel".

This is so dumb. The #AI based it's rendition of #Jesus on the #ShroudOfTurin—an artifact that has been definitively debunked as a #hoax by science. This is the practical equivalent of using AI to speculate about what Jesus looked like based on those pictures of Cesare Borgia so many #Christians have on their wall. This gets us no closer to understanding what the man, if he actually existed, looked like. Call it "Christian masturbation".
