👣Remember, balance starts from the ground up—don’t neglect your ankle health!

✨ Josie, a rockstar from my SPARTA Strength Class at the Malden Senior Center, demonstrates two simple resistance band exercises—the seated ankle push-down (dorsiflexion)—to strengthen shin muscles, improve ankle mobility and gait, stretch the calf muscles, and enhance balance.

💪🏾You can do these anywhere, anytime!

Compassion *does* generate sympathy

My father-in-law (who's been an asshole since long before he voted for Trump) is dying at home, as he wants. Spouse and I are making it possible. This has been strongly proving the truism that just treating someone with compassion softens your feelings towards them, whether or not that's deliberate.

We still dislike him intensely, and are looking forward to his death. But my heartily despising him has faded to a cognitive recognition that those feelings were & are warranted, without being caught up in them. Spouse has noticed it, too, though I'm not presuming to describe his feelings.

Maybe we're just avoiding cognitive dissonance. Whatever it is, I'll take it. Looking after a dying person who's shifting in and out of lucidity is hard enough without my heart rate going up every time I talk to him.

Also? If nursing home staff were paid more than neurosurgeons, it wouldn't be enough.

📣Excited to share that I attended the 2025 Open House at the Milano Senior Center in Melrose!

💪🏾I'm grateful for the opportunity to have my SPARTA Strength class be a part of the Milano Center's amazing program to build a healthy community.

✨80 Years-Young Fitness Inspiration💪🏾

💥Battle-ropes training builds muscle power, grip strength, motor skills, and brain health while having fun. It also combats sarcopenia (muscle loss associated with aging). 👊🏽

⏰ Fun Fact: As we age, we lose muscle power at twice the rate of muscle strength.

The two components of power exercises 💥 are strength and speed. ⚡
