An intense orange sunrise momentarily hidden behind a low bank of cumulus fills most of the image. The clouds are a dark grey except for their outlined edges and a few corners facing the hidden sun, which are outlined in red and orange fire. Below the clouds is a narrow band of deep orange, and then the straight line of a dull, slate blue sea, still dark without the sun's light. Below that again is the tiny black outline of a seaside town, apartment towers and smaller buildings still black and waiting for the sun.

The thinnest of crescent moons sits high in a deep blue dawn sky. Unlike some sunrises, there's no gentle gradation of colour in the sky, the blue fades only slightly towards the horizon before changing abruptly to an unvarying, light yellow glow, with hints of rays emerging. The bright dawn light silhouettes the skyline running along the bottom of the image, a suburban ridgeline of trees and houses. Just at the far right of the image, on the horizon is a small patchy band of cloud, adding a little texture to an otherwise sparse image, dark, light, dark, with moon.

The blue of night has its grip on the sky as the last stream of light pushes its way through the cloudy skies of Bretagne. Looking out upon the city from high above, the tapestry of lights are turning on in their many shades and colors. A couple of Mid-Century towers nearby have their lights illuminated as though they are spelling out secret messages of positive and negative, of light and shadow.
