It finally opened! And we were lucky to be sitting at the bar when a manager from an actual Applebee’s nearby came to drop off bags of food to the staff at Northside Yacht Club.

I don’t remember when they started doing these “takeovers,” but they lean into them with all their gusto, putting graphics up, creating new cocktail and food menus. Then they play it all up on social and here we are.

I am fairly certain this escapade resulted in a Cease & Desist letter which is now proudly framed in the bar area.

There’s better photos and a write up on Ronnie Salerno’s blog.

Of the 5,965 journal entries here, none have been titled “Bananas,” which I think is bananas.

I like bananas well enough on their own, but love them in ice cream or a milkshake.

Which is why when I read about Morgenstern’s Bananas I kept vying to squeeze in a visit on this trip.

I found some takers in Thor and Patrick. We popped by after lunch and after quick peeks inside Little Cupcake Bakeshop and a pizza joint (Prince St. Pizza). I’m adding both to the bucket list for the next NYC visit.

So how was the dairy free ice cream? I got the banana vanilla and it was SO VERY GOOD with undertones of coconut that did not compete. If this place was any closer it could become a problem.

The light was so nice today, there were a handful of extra snapshots.

Images ran the gamut of light temperatures, for the sake of presenting them together I’m processing them black and white.

While sorting I read up on the tall  Beaux-Arts building under construction below. That’s the Gwynne Building and was once the headquarters of Proctor & Gamble. It’s being transformed to a boutique hotel. Glad it is finding a new purpose.

Our theme for the McGuffey Montessori School’s annual fundraiser was news station. Tom made a spinning light-up tower with our call letters. We dressed as camera operators, reporters, photographers and a producer with all the accoutrements and whatnot.

I still have absolutely zero trivia chops, but provided moral support even though I forgot the remote to the big TV that was going to be a backdrop and cycle through photos from the evening. (Wendy persevered with multiple trips to the school to grab needed cables and replacement monitor.)

Like every year, it was a hoot.

I’ve oodles of snapshots, and even more from others to pull together. Here’s a few on McGuffey’s site.
