There are a lot of dedicated students at New College who will graduate from school with a lesser reputation as a result of the new regime's effort to flood the institution with right-wing, Christian men. </p><p>Some of these students are coming into the school with a big chip on their shoulder, and a real sense of personal righteousness. They aren't there to study or learn. They are there to play sports, party with their friends, and own the libs. The complaint details discrimination against students in violation of civil rights laws. One thing that stands out: official acquiescence to Trustee Christopher Rufo's childish mocking and peevish name-calling directed at specific students and parents. Jennifer Stisa Granick<p>The Sarasota County DA's office filed battery charges against a New College student for allegedly spitting on a nasty jerk who is one of the school trustees. He didn't know he'd been spat on until a nice police officer told him so, and had no idea where the alleged spittle landed. After scaring the shit out of her and her family, probably making them spend money on a good lawyer, getting her to switch schools (so I hear), the DA dropped the charges today. It's a relief for the student, but the terrorism of it succeeded. In fact, the new Administration just initiated disciplinary proceedings against a student who said "Fuck you, Cochran" and displayed "the finger" at a Board meeting back in April.
