#Pope #LeoXIV has urged for "responsibility & discernment" over the use of #ArtificialIntelligence (A.I.) during his 1st press briefing w/ the #media since being elected as the head of the #RomanCatholic Church

Leo acknowledged that #AI has "immense potential" for the good of #humanity, but echoed his predecessor, Pope #Francis, as he warned it could also pose "new challenges for the defense of #HumanDignity, #justice & #labor"

Just announced . . .

Cardinal Robert Prevost, a religious moderate who was born in Chicago, has been elected to be the new #Pope of the #RomanCatholic church.

He has taken the name Pope Leo XIV (the 14th) & from what I've heard & read about him, so far, he was a "good" choice.

The #Conclave to elect the new #Pope starts today.

I'm an #Atheist and don't care who they elect but I'm interested in in the vote in terms of the #Politics of the event & what it says for which way the #RomanCatholic church is headed.

#PopeFrancis chose the majority of cardinals eligible to vote for the new Pope but he did not only choose reform oriented religious leaders like himself.

I haven't seen a breakdown of the voting cardinals in terms of them being religious liberals, moderates or conservative but the thinking is that a moderate will be elected.

We'll see . . .

I'm sad about the passing of #PopeFrancis. He was not perfect, but compared to so many of those before him, he was a breath of fresh air and brought so many positive change to the #RomanCatholic church.

And he was willing to speak painful truth to the empires of our day, including in speaking against the #USA and its war on refugees and against the state of #Israel and its war against the people of #Gaza.

May his memory be for a blessing.
