I mean, even Robert A. Caro will tell you precisely HOW he got some of those fine details about Robert Moses and LBJ -- as evidenced by the excellent 99% INVISIBLE series on THE POWER BROKER, which is TRULY a rewarding deep dive for a certain type of books/journalism wonk that I happen to be. Why isn't Woodward that transparent?
I’m doing 99 Percent Invisible’s year long read through The Power Broker by Robert A. Caro and it’s fascinating to see the parallels between the 1920’s and today – especially when it comes to courts and appeals.
I usually don’t highlight in my books but there are passages that really stand out to me:
On pages 193-194, the author talks about how many appeals Robert Moses had the commission's lawyers file. Moses only needed to keep the case going until the special session was over in the legislature. "Every appeal was denied–but every one used up time."

Great 2011 interview: thanks for reprinting it!
If you liked Gottlieb, you shouldn't miss the recent documentary film on him and one of this favorite subjects. "Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb" is on Amazon, I think for $6. A bit overlong, but full of interest if you like them, or reading, or writing, or editing.
Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert A. Caro and Robert Gottlieb takes audiences behind the scenes of their relationship. The film is now playing in select theaters in NYC and LA. #film #movies #Documentary #books #RobertACaro #RobertGottlieb #editing #TurnEveryPage #LBJ #LyndonBainesJohnson https://www.solzyatthemovies.com/2022/06/22/turn-every-page-tribeca-2022/
