The #Reddit Protest Is Finally Over. Reddit Won.

Honestly I feel sad that #enshittfication can’t drag user away. If Reddit can move on after these kind of things I think #TwitterX could move on as well. I feel sad that both #Twitter and #Reddit still being go-to place after this kind of #enshittfication….

@futurism

I am all for these protests. But at first, most subs were only tagged as NSFW to mock him and just to be offlimits to underage users. But now, people actually use it to post NSFW content the whole time. AskReddit, AskMen, AskWomen, etc. amd a bunch of other stuff is just a bunch of NSFW content now.

Steve Huffman: "Apollo threatened us, said they'll 'make it easy' if Reddit gave them $10 million. This guy behind the scenes is coercing us. He's threatening us."

Luckily, Apollo developer Christian Selig had proof that Huffman lied.

While the media coverage (and many written subreddit positions) focus on the API changes, it's the justified anger at Huffman's dishonesty that fuels many of the redditor protests.

reddit CEO is downplaying the current protest saying it hasn't affected them financially and it will pass soon enough,
over 8000 subreddits have gone dark, many plan to stay dark past the original date due to reddits indifferent attitude.
out of 47 subreddits with over 10-million users, only one is not dark right now.

@mike @tchambers @atomicpoet @shoq @smorks Obviously #Lemmy has come up in the #RedditProtest discussions. But there's also been some shade thrown about the developers and about lemmygrad.ml. (IYAM, the best thing to do with free software made my objectionable folks is to benefit from it yourself in spite of them. I mean, #RMS is an avowed pedophile, but people still use GCC, make, and #Emacs. And the author of ReiserFS killed his wife. What can you do.)

As I predicted, the Reddit protest has done absolutely nothing. The front page of reddit still has the same drivel, and they’re pretending like nothing is happening. They did acknowledge that “subreddits participating in the protest are causing stability issues” (I highly doubt that), but that’s it. They legitimately don’t care. Plus, 557 subreddits that promised that they would blackout haven’t.

Delete your Reddit account RIGHT NOW, and never (and I mean NEVER) look back. We all deserve better.
