In the basement tonight messing around with pitch shifting synth tracks. I didn’t like the dark vibe of my vocal track in a lower key, so nuked all my previous vocals, and now going to re-track the vocals. I was pleasantly surprised with how okay it sounds to pitch change the synth tracks within the DAW. No weird artifacts or strangeness. So shifted the synth tracks up a couple semi-tones. Freaky thing to do, but it actually retained the integrity of the tone. Almost scrapped the entire song after a couple weeks work, but glad I came to some solution. Endless learning in this musical journey. #music #recording #songwriting

I’m glad the synth song I’m working on is getting closer to being done. Learning. Good cathartic messed up song for messed up times. It’s got sort of a slow synth based Leonard Cohen kinda vibe. Lyrical reference to Joey Ramone, drugs, life and weird dark times. Fighting my urge to get guitar in there too, as it’s only synth and vocal. Never done that before. I’ll probably use this tune as a learning exercise and keep it as is. Maybe next song go crazy and mix it up a bit. #music #songwriting #recording

Trying the Hosa MIT-129 transformer in-line on a piezo connected to a fan.

This is a sample of no transformer for the first 14 or so seconds, then 15ish with the '129 inline. The latter displays far more bass, however there was a significant drop off in level using it... some 2/3rds less than without.

Wondering if this needs phantom power but can find no info on this. I might try the Radial passive DI next. Bulky but with a better transformer.

Good evening in the basement. Comping vocals from last night’s session. Very chill synth song. Nuked the concept of the SM58 and went back to the condenser mic with the tube preamp. Decent warm sound and articulation. Better dynamic range than the SM58 and more predictable with recording. If I solo the vocal track in the DAW, bit of a low hum from the tube preamp. Good thing it’s inaudible when it’s buried amongst the synth tracks. Should be finished comping the vocal tomorrow night. #music #recording #songwriting #audio
