Record Store Day is in two days.

I've generally avoided it. Even if I wanted something, it always seemed overpriced. Sometimes, it was also only for sale in another country. Flippers and a certain "cool factor" seemed to invade on the part that matters most: The music.

I'm feeling anything except festive this year. It feels kind of gross to possibly take part. There is one horrorpunk album that I'm hoping my local shop can get, though.

There are a few I'm going to pick up. The Bill Evans, the Mingus albums, *maybe* the Joni Mitchell (it's an expensive box, and her live recordings have been a toss-up historically).

Note, a lot of these aren't actually *exclusive* to RSD, but RSD "first" which means, eventually, they'll come out generally.

The Oscar Peterson Trio, Con Alma: Live in Lugano, 1964 on Mack Avenue / Two Lions

First released in 2023, this set was recorded at Teatro Apollo in Lugano Switzerland by RSI Radiotelevisione svizzera (the Swiss Broadcasting subsidary covering Italian speaking Switzerland) on May 26, 1964. Mack Avenue Records is a Detroit label founded by Gretchen Valade who gets executive producer credit here. Two Lions is a label Peterson’s widow Kelly Peterson (also credited as producer) founded – the two lions being Peterson and Norman Granz.

This is the classic trio with Ray Brown (bass) and Ed Thigpen (drums). Great recording, great mastering (by Blaise Faivre).
