The West #Midlands Combined Authority has announced a milestone week in the construction of new #railway stations across #Birmingham, marking significant progress in the region’s transport infrastructure upgrade. These new stations will improve local and regional connectivity, providing easier access to employment, education, and leisure opportunities. The project supports Birmingham’s wider regeneration plans and aims to encourage sustainable travel by enhancing public #transport options. Community engagement remains a priority, with efforts to minimise disruption and ensure the stations meet local needs. The developments are part of a broader strategy to modernise the West Midlands’ rail network, reduce congestion, and support economic growth, keeping the project on track for timely completion.

Today's historic photo of the day: The original 1876 #railway station building at Binalong, NSW, October 26 1985.

Rails first reached Binalong, 354km south of Sydney on the NSW Main South railway, in 1876 when the single track line was extended from Bowning. The building seen here was built at that time and served as Binalong station until 1915. Whilst there are no tracks here today, the carriage is where the main line once ran, and the station yard formerly occupied the land at right.

A £26,000 grant from Great Western #Railway (GWR) has enabled Education and Skills Development Group (ESDEG) to deliver inclusive STEM clubs in #Southall, inspiring interest in technology and engineering among underrepresented pupils. Held at North and Hambrough Primary Schools during the 2024/25 academic year, the clubs have supported around 80 students through hands-on activities in design, 3D printing, coding, and robotics. Mentors include an inventor, a PhD student, and university undergraduates. Funded by GWR’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund, the initiative addresses the UK’s STEM skills gap and promotes educational equity. Mentor Ahmed Hadhoud said the project is igniting lifelong passions and helping students consider careers in technology and engineering. GWR’s Emma Morris highlighted the programme’s lasting impact, shaping future innovators and contributing to communities through education.
