#railstrike

Got a notification earlier today that the train that my friends and I booked to get from Amsterdam to Antwerp for #Darklands was cancelled, due to a Belgian rail strike. Oh no!

Fortunately, I found another solution. We'll take the train to the closest Dutch town to the border, and then a submissive friend who lives in Antwerp will drive over, pick us up, and drive us back to Antwerp.

I'm so glad that I know so many submissive men who are eager to make my life easier!

Canadian #Labor #RailStrike having effect on #NAFTA partner economies in #USA & #Mexico as well ...

Thousands of #Canada based #Teamster #railroad workers — including engineers, conductors and dispatchers have been #lockedout as situation goes unresolved into 2nd week. Hopes to swap in #BigRig trucks must account for fact it takes approx 300 #trucks to transport one #freight trainload of goods.

OK, I take it back, the CBC’s is still a poorly written article that unfairly makes it sound like the workers were on strike. Compare the first two paragraphs from the current CBC article versus the current BBC article on the issue.

BBC: bbc.com/news/articles/cwy586pw

"Employees at one of Canada's two largest railways will return to work on Friday, partially ending an unprecedented work stoppage after intervention by the federal government.

Canada moved on Thursday to end the brief stoppage, which saw Canadian National Railway (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) lock out some 9,300 workers after failing to clinch a deal with the Teamsters union.

The Canadian labour minister asked the federal industrial relations board to impose binding arbitration on the parties
CN said operations would resume on Friday. CPKC said it was preparing to restart operations but that timing was pending.”

"The Teamsters union has served Canadian National Railway (CN) with a 72-hour strike notice, hours after saying it was taking down picket lines and its workers were returning to the job.

The strike notice was issued Friday morning just after 11 a.m.

The work stoppage at Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) also continues pending an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB).

Following months of increasingly fraught contract talks, Canada's two biggest railways both locked out workers after failing to reach deals with the union by a Thursday deadline.”

A better article on the stoppage than CBC had before.

The previous made it sound like the workers had stopped the trains, when it was actually the two companies in tandem locking out the employees at the same time. That has never been done before.

Only now are the #Teamsters at #CNRail putting in their 72hr strike notice. The Teamsters at #CPKC already have done that but have not actually launched a strike.

Don't forget, a big part of this rail strike is over safety demands. CPKC & CN want to be able to run one-man crews and reduce rest requirements. The workers want to get home safe and be compensated fairly. If our bastard PM gets his way, they'll bust the strike to "save the economy"... But remember this next time a small town in Quebec gets erased or half of Mississauga gets choked out by chlorine gas: Safety laws are written in blood.

The disruption of rail services across Canada and into the US is going to be a huge disruption in NA industry. My forecast has been that gov would let it progress past the strike/lockout deadline and a few days past, tops.

Expecting back-to-work legislation and binding arbitration before next week.

MAJOR Canadian rail strike begins tonight. Same issues as the 2022 rail strike where Biden intervened against the union: brutal schedules that push sleep deprivation, seemingly random relocations, the works.

A benefit of this is that tar sands "oil" by rail won't be able to move. Harmful effects (for which we need to blame the railroad bosses) include food shipments and water purification chemicals that may not move except possibly by truck.

Note that Canadian Pacific Kansas City declared a LOCKOUT starting tonight, and this declaration came prior to the strike notice! The lockout notice was issued Aug 9, the strike notice not until the past Sunday (August 11), and also that day Canadian National issued a lockout notice.

The strike notice means picket lines though, which other unions will not cross and any scabs should expect trouble crossing. Here in the US, the Teamsters-affiliated
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen has instructed their members not to cross picket lines, and authorized them to refuse to operate any trains owned/run by the two offending Canadian railroads inside the US.

A idyllic #daydream. You need to be able to afford the #railticket, have lots of time in case of delays, a back-up plan in case of cancellation and bus #routes where the #bus shows up on time. I love the idea but sadly this hasn't been my experience of #UK #PublicTransport, since about the #1970s. I look forward to when it is.

#Support #RMT #RailStrike With proper #pay & conditions people wouldn't need to #strike.

So there's yet another #RailStrike on Wed 4th Oct affecting #Northern rail.

Guess where I'll be at 22:00 on Wed 4th Oct: Manchester airport... with absolutely no way to get home.

FFS.
Can't they just cancel the trains from stations where there are other options and not from a station where there is NOTHING ELSE?!
Let me get to Piccadilly at least...
*Something*...
