Harry Belafonte, the singer, actor and (probably most notably) activist did so much in the past eight decades. Inspired both Sam Cooke and Public Enemy, supported the presidential campaigns of JFK and Bernie Sanders.
In recent years, I fell in love specifically with his music. I wrote this review of his 1956 album Calypso on my blog a while back, and I hope it does him justice. Justice was all he ever fought for, and he deserves it in return
