Whilst welcome, all #Probationreviews tend to say this...
"The #ProbationService should target its resources on the highest risk #offenders & those with complex needs...while expanding the use of the #ThirdSector to support those on low & medium #sentences."

Nothing changes, which is why I left the Probation Service years ago...
"...To succeed, any reforms to sentencing must ensure the #ProbationService is properly resourced to be able to deal with the cases it is required to manage. A service which is under-resourced and over-stretched will not be able to provide the effective service that the public and #victims need.”

Whilst I'm glad #coercivecontrol is being recognised for the #seriousharm it causes, this article is somewhat misleading (or the media have been briefed incorrectly). Any serious harm risks (including coercive control) are already shared with other agencies by the #Probationservice, this is not something new. It is disingenuous to infer otherwise.

Amongst my many roles within the #CJS was that of NVQ assessor. I found that Supervisors who taught skills such as carpentry, gardening etc within the #UPW environment were more likely to get compliant #offenders than those who didn't. In my opinion, it is no good punishing offenders if you do not also increase their motivation & ability to avoid #reoffending. #SkilledUPW is one way of doing this

Want to know why I left the #ProbationService in 2018. Bc, in my 15 year career, the only consistent period when I wasn't overworked to breaking point was during my qualification training. Those 2 yrs were full of promise & expectation never fulfilled. It was once a job for life. It isn't any more.

I worked for the #ProbationService for 15 yrs. The last 2 for the #privatesector after it was privatised. This article reminded me of my failed attempts to get an extremely risky #domesticabuse case classified as high risk. Bc of privatisation, this meant he would be transferred to the #NPS (who supervised high risk cases) 1/4

@Molly #FailingGrayling. We had an effective #ProbationService that was almost 100 years old, before the Tories decided that they could split it and privatise some of it.
Experienced probation officers left the service in droves, because of these structural changes.
At least even the Tories have realised it was a mistake, not that you really hear them say so
@mirror #FailingGraying has a lot to answer for here. We had a very effective #ProbationService until the government decided it would provide a better service if privatised. #PeopleHaveDied
