Fediverse

How I explain

In my opinion, Fediverse is "Federated Universe," which means interconnected servers that use the ActivityPub protocol to exchange and distribute information to each other, such as social media posts (Mastodon, GotoSocial, Lemmy, and Threads), blogs (WriteFreely, Plume, and WordPress with the ActivityPub plugin).

Those software are usually free, libre, and open source, but some also use subscription-based marketing, such as managed hosting of the mentioned software, write.as, and micro.blog. Have fun experimenting with those software. My shortest Mastodon instance was ≤ 3 days lol.

So far, I know the Fediverse exists because those people with a huge amount of money destroyed that very popular social app by buying and owning it, lol. Many servers across the Fediverse mean that no single company can overtake single server.

Open Source statt Paywall. Verständnis statt Konsum.

Was hat euch damals fasziniert?

Danke euch schon jetzt! 🙏

Google Discover’s AI Overviews are now live for iOS and Android in the U.S., offering summaries directly in the feed 📱. This threatens news publishers by reducing traffic and ad revenue 💸.

While users get quick info, many fear fewer clicks and less visibility for their sites 🔍. With AI taking over, will smaller publishers survive? 🤔

Microsoft’s Copilot Vision now allows Windows insiders to share their entire desktop with AI for real-time analysis 👀.

While it promises convenience, this raises serious privacy concerns 🛑. Users must opt in, but the potential for unwanted data collection is real.

Is it worth trading privacy for productivity? 🤔

«How to stop your #LG or #Samsung smart TV from #tracking you»

appleinsider.com/inside/mac/ti

My suggestion is to avoid connecting a monitor or #TV to the internet as much as possible, and instead favor more #privacy-oriented "smart" platforms for accessing multimedia files or video #streaming networks. Segmenting via VLANs and/or managing your own #firewall is always good practice—now more than ever.

AppleInsiderHow to stop your LG or Samsung smart TV from tracking youEven when used as a monitor for your Mac, an LG or Samsung smart TV will periodically capture what's on screen and send it to company servers. Here's how to stop that terrible behavior.

They should make a law that prohibits requiring people to have an app or card to get sale. Same for saving stamps for free stuff (as we love in NL).

I just heard again "look how much sale after I download the Lidl app". The fact you need a closed source proprietary app (or any app) for that is ridiculous. Both for the privacy issues as the exclusion to people without smartphones.

I don't mind the option, mind you. But the requirement is ridiculous.
