Portugal grid operator REN says power outage across Iberian peninsula was due to extreme temperature variations, anomalous oscillations in the very high voltage lines (400 kV), a phenomenon known as 'induced atmospheric vibration'.
Due to the complexity of the phenomenon and need to rebalance electricity flows internationally, it is estimated that full normalisation of the grid may take up to a week.
