#potatochip

The #potatochip was invented in 1853 by George Crum. He was a black American chef at the Moon Lake Lodge resort in Saratoga Springs. French fries were popular at the restaurant and one day a diner complained that the fries were too thick. Although Crum made a thinner batch, the customer was still unsatisfied. Crum finally made fries that were too thin to eat with a fork, hoping to annoy the extremely fussy customer. The customer, surprisingly enough, was happy – and potato chips were invented!

Beyond merely 'weird' #PotatoChip flavours, there's local #Chinese #snacks which are in the same rough space that are, for my money, much more enjoyable.

A case in point is this 锅巴 (guoba), a concoction made from sticky-rice that's been pressed firmly against the side of a large, fire-heated wok until it's thin and allowed to cook until crisp. (That's the traditional way, and indeed guoba was originally the remainder left over from the process of traditional *cooking* of rice.)

It's probably my favourite single snack food in the world. And I found this source of farmer-style (the traditional style made in large woks) guoba that's positively sublime!

I got mine in several flavours: plain, slightly sweet, hot and spicy, and sesame. The latter is non-traditional, but they basically add a bunch of sesame seeds to the rice mix before toasting it. The quality is amazing!
