A century and a quarter ago, before the horseless carriage replaced the nobility's four-footed mount in Sweden, Ellen Sandels wrote a cavalry march for piano called "Blå Prinsen", which could be translated as "Blue Prince". This march for brass quintet is a (loose) arrangement of Sandels' piano march.

Over a century ago, Boris Sabaneyev wrote a "Canzona Phrygia", a mostly polyphonic bit of music for organ and arranged for piano. The first ten bars of the middle and upper contraputal voices serve as the basis for the music below.
