I found Futo keyboard to use via vnc on the pi, but the cursor keys are tiny. I wanted like kdeconnect, but as a keyboard.</p><p>For the kitchen, a perfect world would use touchscreen but nobody left me one 😁</p><p>It would need <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/openvoiceos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>openvoiceos</span></a> too, but that's a different puzzle.</p>

But the main issue now is that although there is a voice assistant in Home Assistant, it's not hands free/always listening. You have to press a button to make it listen which makes it pointless since a light switch on a wall takes less effort for my users here. T4$<p>Futuristic LOL time. So, I set up a old laptop with Windows 10 a few years ago and installed the Alexa app to control my lights in my living room (and other parts of the house). The hard drive in that laptop died back in October. So I started looking into alternatives. False starts with Android emulators, and Android x86... Then I decided to give Home Assistant a try again. Their fedi account is a year dormant, both the ovos-user-manual.openvoiceos.org and the <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/OpenVoiceOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenVoiceOS</span></a> community troubleshooting pages are mostly stubs or 404s, and I'm keen to know why only my weather Skill reliably responds, the rest say "I don't know", and that answer appears to suspend mic input.</p>
Waxing and Waning {NCC-1703}<p>My test bed Mycroft / OpenVoiceOS installation is coming alongnicely. It's frustrating that MycroftAI's excellent online portal for managing skills and settings disappeared with the demise of the company. David Sterry<p>If you like the idea of voice assistants but it's gotta be open source you've probably heard about MyCroft AI and their Mark II device.
