Hill averaged 9.7 PPG and 5.8 RPG and started 73 games over four years in Norman. Schröeder was never much of a factor except on the practise team; Noland and Bamisile had their moments in and out of the rotation.

Jalen Hill was the last Sooner left on the team that played for now-retired coach Lon Kruger. Cortes and Noland were the last players recruited by Kruger. Both honoured their commitments when Porter Moser was hired to replace Kruger.

My opinion only: As long as Moser--a good coach but in over his head in high Division I and certainly in over his head in the Big 12--Oklahoma will close out its Big 12 era in the basement, maybe even under it. The upcoming 2023-24 season is Oklahoma's last as a member of the Big 12 Conference. The following season, OU will be a member of the SEC.

This is a hard thing to say but it's real: The longer Moser is the coach, the more likely it is I withdraw my support from OU basketball. I'm already not thrilled with the move to the SEC--something motivated almost wholly by football (because the only sport at OU is football, apparently), and money.

The five departing players appear to have seen the writing on the wall. Who else joins them?

OU Daily:
https://www.oudaily.com/sports/ou-basketball-jalen-hill-transfer-portal-sooners/article_ef09b8fc-d267-11ed-9dfb-5303b4372ede.html

I'm personally not expecting an NIT bid, or even the CBI, the tournament that's even beneath the NIT--if the NCAAs are the "Big Dance," the NIT is the awkward junior high school mixer, and the CBI is the unpopular kid's birthday party. Anyway, here's Clay:

" ... Wednesday night, inside Kansas City’s T-Mobile Center for another Big 12 tourney, their last chance to do something barring victory giving them another one, the Sooners were rotten from the start.

"For most of it, they threatened not to score even a point a minute, settling on 20 first-half points, 36 through 33 minutes, 41 through 38:18 — just to get within 14 points — before finally losing 57-49.

"OU shot 25 percent (14 of 56).

"It put up 56 shots, 2.7 more than its 53.7 average that ranks 330th out of 363 Division I programs and only that because when you shoot 25 percent you’re going to get some offensive rebounds and OU grabbed 10.

"Still, mostly, it was the kind of performance that tells you one thing.

"Moser’s team didn’t want to be there.

"The players had had enough.

"What was the point after two seasons of going nowhere, playing for a coach that everybody says is terrific, just ask them, who’s nonetheless run the program into the ground, playing a brand of basketball nobody wants to play, nor watch, that only makes it harder to win."

https://www.oklahomacolumnist.com/p/porter-mosers-failure-at-oklahoma?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

IS PORTER MOSER FIRED YET? Seriously, two losing seasons in a row and the very thought of even missing the NIT does not fly well in Sooner Nation.

2. Which Sooners are going to jump into the Transfer Portal (I can think of one that might: Sophomore CJ Noland).

Uzan is a coach's son who is a very promising player. Maybe he'll be a coach someday too.

But now I'm screaming for a picture of Milos Uzan--or at least his grownup head Photoshopped onto a little tyke, "Parson Weems Fable" style, sitting on the end of the bench in his Big Boy suit, drawing up imaginary plays on his li'l whiteboard ...

Parson Weems, you ask (see the alt text):

There is no timetable for his possible return to the team. OU has one home game left, and two road games before the Big 12 Tournament in March, although the Sooners are firmly in control of the conference basement and any postseason berth is doubtful.
