#Novavax

I got a dose of Novavax's updated vaccine against covid when it was released last fall. I had been planning to get a booster dose either when the next covid surge began or when it had been 6 months since my last shot.

However, RFK Jr.'s senate confirmation has me wondering whether it would be prudent to get my next shot sooner. Big Pharma is powerful enough that I don't expect vaccines to be banned outright, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are changes to the rules about either how often people can get vaccinated or whether insurance has to pay for vaccines.

Also, I remember a time a while ago (1 year ago? 2 years ago?) when the existing stock of Novavax vaccines had expired, and the company wasn't making more. Does anyone know the expiration date on the Novavax shots that are currently available, and whether the company is making more?

Any information would be very welcome. Also, does anyone know whether Friesein, the X user who is legendary for disseminating information on Novavax, can be reached from the Fediverse? I would love to get Friesein's feedback on whether Novavax will still be available in the United States in March 2025 and beyond, but I'm not on X and really don't want to join a site run by Elon Musk.

for myself personally, will only take #Novavax .. so can sympathize a bit w/the anti-vax people?

vaccine shedding is the dumbest thing & altho am no fan of #mRNA think for most people blaming it is ridiculous however will concede it’s possible (likely extremely rare) to have had very negative after effects… will gander most people are having issues from chronic repeat infections

so tbh find myself in an usual place too…………

this is complete conjecture, but the Feb meeting, if it is VRBAC, usually discusses upcoming variants w/ Pfizer, Moderna & Novavax

Last year, the vaccines were pulled off the market in May as recall getting mine last day of Spring semester classes

what this seems like is no fall booster… but then again they could pull them all off the market at any point bc there’s zero stability, reliability under this regime

#novavax is personally the only Covid vaccine i will take & am not sure how the hunt for it will go…

if this is the last Covid vaccine available ever… jfc😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Big #covid wave it seems atm in Victoria, keep hearing of people getting it in the last few weeks and now friends we're supposed to catch up with tomorrow.

I feel like my luck has to run out at some point, but I've been absolutely clockwork with my boosters, and having had 3x #Novavax when that was possible I hope has been continued to be protective because protein vax seems to have had much longer term protection against ALL new variants. Still stunned that the vast majority of people I know seem completely unaware of this - tried to tell a few but their eyes always glazed over and I haven't tried in ages. Sigh. Can't even get it in Australia anymore.

Hey, covid-cautious people! What are your thoughts on which countries are CURRENTLY the best for people like us? I'm not interested in which countries did the best in 2020 and 2021. I want to know which are the best NOW. Of particular interest are the availability of vaccines, especially Novavax, and the acceptability of wearing N95 masks in public. I'm especially interested in countries where English or Spanish are spoken.

EDITED TO ADD:

Many thanks to everyone who responded! Here's a summary of the responses:

New Zealand: "vaccines free for over-30s every six months. Tests and masks no longer free. No national ventilation standards or mandatory masking even in care settings. Wearing one in public considered slightly unusual, possible asshole interactions (probably less so in Auckland)"

Japan: Probably good.

United Kingdom: Mostly negative reviews, but one person had this relatively positive comment on vaccine availability: "Vaccines are available, but only privately and from an extremely small number of pharmacies. You may get lucky if your employer offers one, but you'll only get one at Christmas and they'll probably expect you to go to the office to get it."

Australia: Not good.

United States of America, liberal region: "Novovax is available. Vaccines are covered or not depending on your insurance. If you are poor and have state insurance, it covers the vaccines, paxlovid, and eight rapid tests per month. Masc blocs give out free n95s. If you have to pay for shots out of pocket, they are about $200". (Something not discussed in the replies is whether RFK Jr.'s influence on Trump's administration may result in the US limiting vaccine access in the future, which concerns some Americans.)

Acceptability of wearing N95 masks: Interestingly, there were no significant differences noted between countries. I had expected much more difference.

Thank you to everyone who shared information on your countries!

think today is a good day to remind that Covid💉DOES work if done correctly

it’s not a panacea but more a stop-gap

this study published from August 19, 2023 shows my irl experience

these apt buildings were designed to circulate hallway air through apartments, but mine are sealed top & bottom b/c we are the only people in our building of 200+ who still😷yet still💨

f£€k you, i won’t do what you tell me😇

NatureEvidence of leaky protection following COVID-19 vaccination and SARS-CoV-2 infection in an incarcerated population - Nature CommunicationsMeasuring an individual’s level of exposure to COVID-19 is challenging, and it is therefore unclear whether high exposure may impact immunity. Here, the authors investigate this question using data from a correctional facility in Connecticut, USA, by comparing rates of infection in people who share cells, cellblocks, and with no known exposure.

"Sixty percent of people not lining up for a [#COVID] shot said side effects were a major reason for their disinterest."

I got the #Novavax shot this year and last (for multiple reasons, not least of which is that I think having options is good), and both times, didn't notice any side-effects. That said, I'd had a bunch of mRNA shots and didn't have any notable side-effects from those either. I seem to be one of the luckier ones.

So grateful to have multiple #COVID vaccines to choose from as one layer in my defense. I got #Novavax two days ago and have had almost no side effects.

As someone who has consistently had very strong reactions to both mRNA brands, this has been a welcome relief!

If you haven't had this year's booster yet, please do so to help protect yourself and others! And if side effects are a reason that you're hesitant, you have options! (At least in the U.S.)

Agree w/all of it.
How’s spike infection not worse than spike vax… how is it bio-weapon/lab leak yet just a cold?

Got to say, discovering my🦷paste was seriously dampening my immune system for 4 YEARS (it’s been amazing past 4 days after cutting it) how external things affect your health is truly fascinating

Waited until 8/2021 to get primary Pfizer to be more protected during winter but getting 2nd infection NYE.. have been anti-mRNA for myself since so yay #Novavax

I know you guys in🇨🇦 don’t have access so rarely bring it up subject here😔

It’s criminal imho & hope you guys figure out how to get it as protein vaccine seems to be the direction the trend is heading

Complaining in regards to this particular subject is safer compared to the chilling effect of other types of speech…
