A famous poem from my home. It memorializes and laments an element of Canadian identity that separates us from our cousins to the south. An #American poet writing about a #Scottish colony, seized from #France , but where the first true European settlers were impoverished outsiders, abandoned by the Ancien Régime, to be expelled and then ruled by England.
A complex and very specific element of an important Canadian identity, les #Acadiens. Expelled from their home, but they're still here. You can't really take Canada from Canadians, it never works out for the aggressor in the way they expect. Just a lot of unneeded bloodshed, tears and broken hearts.
