The United Nations was established to ensure world peace and suppress acts of aggression. It has failed us for eighty years.
The reason for that failure is the attempt of the framers of the UN Charter to protect the Imperialist ambitions of five founding nations through the Unanimous Consent clauses of the charter. There is an exception to the Unanimous Consent rule which is intended to protect against abuse of Unanimous Consent. A permanent member which is party to a dispute must abstain from voting.
It is time to enforce Article 27 Section 3 and it is time to take the steps necessary to amend the UN Charter to eliminate the Unanimous Consent clauses.

Peace negotiations with Russia over the Ukraine War is the wrong approach.
In accordance with Article 5 of the United Nations Charter all rights and privileges of membership in the United Nations should be suspended for the Russian Federation until the following conditions are met:
1. All Russian Federation troops and personnel are withdrawn from Ukraine.
2. The peace is restored in Ukraine.
3. Ukraine’s sovereignty is restored to it’s original 1991 boundaries.
4. All members of the Russian Federation for whom a warrant has been issued by the International Criminal Court have been arrested and turned over to, or surrendered to, the International Criminal Court for prosecution.
Russia is the aggressor and must not benefit. Justice under the rule of law is the only path to world peace.

Make America Great Again is a political slogan we have heard a lot over this past decade. The biggest problem with the movement and those who support it is that they don’t define the period of greatness they are trying to rebuild or what it was that made that period in American history so great. I have heard it said that America’s greatest generation was the generation that pulled us out of the Great Depression, turned America into the worlds greatest industrial superpower, fought World War II, and helped the world recover from the destruction that war had caused. If their generation was the greatest American generation, isn’t that the generation we should be following? Democrat or Republican, it was a generation that put America first, worked hard to find consensus, raised taxes to pay their bills, helped create the United Nations, and led the world by example, not by dictate.
In 1942 the Corporate tax rate stood at 40%, Excise tax was 50%, and individual income tax was 6% with a graduated surcharge which put the top income tax rate at 88% for incomes over $200,000. In 1940 our national debt was 93 billion dollars which was 49% of our GDP. When Ronald Reagan took office in 1981 the national debt was just over 900 billion dollars. By the time Reagan left office in 1989 the national debt was over 2 trillion 600 billion dollars. Today the national debt is over 36 trillion dollars which is over 123% of our GDP. Reagan’s coalition of creed and greed has emboldened religious extremists and created a lot of American billionaires who consider themselves above the law and too rich to investigate or prosecute. They have transformed America from a Constitutional Republic into a Plutocracy whose message both foreign and domestic is comply or else. It is time for America to purge itself of these autocrats, rebuild the wall of separation between church and state, and return to the values and processes that made us a great nation.
In terms of foreign policy, America is at its best when it leads by example, and at its worst when it tries to dominate and dictate. It is time for a new generation of leadership in America at all levels of government and a new foreign policy based on the rule of law. We need to unite the world, not divide it. The United Nations is a flawed institution based on a very flawed charter, but it is the only International Law we have. It is time for United Nations reform and the elimination of the Unanimous Consent Clauses of the UN Charter. Until that happens, we must insist on all United Nation’s members complying with the UN Charter as written. The United States and Great Britain have been a party to the Israeli/Palestinian dispute since the 1920s. They must abstain on Security Counsel issues involving Israel! The same is true of the Russian Federation in the Russia/Ukraine War. The Russian Federation is a party to the dispute and must abstain on Security Counsel votes on the Russia/Ukraine conflict! Both wars can be ended through the United Nations in fairly short order if the rest of the world can find the courage to stand up to the United States and the Russian Federation. Both Nations have been violating the UN Charter and both Nations should be held accountable.
So, if you are a MAGA flag waver and supporter, what generation are you trying to recreate? What made that generation great? And, how do you plan to return to that greatness. The United States has once again voted against a Security Council Resolution calling for a cease fire in the Middle East. There is an exception to the Unanimous Consent Clause of the United Nations Charter and the United States has violated that exception and what little International Law we have over sixty times in support of Israeli genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
America has been a party to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict since the 1920s when the United States and Great Britain decided to to create a modern Israeli State to curb Jewish extremist immigration to the USA and England. The United States of America has actively participated in this war and has supplied the 2000 pound bombs that have already killed tens of thousands of civilians. We have also actively engage in combat in this conflict. We are a party to this dispute.
Article 27 paragraph 3 states: Decisions of the Security Council on all other matters shall be made by an affirmative vote of nine members including the concurring votes of the permanent members; provided that, in decisions under Chapter VI, and under paragraph 3 of Article 52, a party to a dispute shall abstain from voting. The United States and Great Britain must abstain.
As we have seen in the Middle East and in Eastern Europe it is impossible to end armed conflicts when a party to the dispute can block all UN action. It is time to put the question before the International Court of Justice and it is time to end Imperialism, end the war in the Middle East, and end the war in Ukraine.

There's a big political push to get all sorts of institutions and funds to divest from fossil fuels.

Where's the equivalent push to divest from all military and weapons contractors as well?

The protesters continue to be on the correct side of history despite politicians disagreeing
