For #printersolstice2425 prompt neon I made a lino block print of four Nixie tubes spelling the word “Neon” on lovely Japanese mulberry paper, 8” x 8”.

Nixie tubes , also known as or cold cathode display, are electronic devices used for displaying letters or numerals or other information using glow discharge. Introduced in 1955, they are prized today for their vintage aesthetics. Inside a glass tube, 🧵1/2

My 8” x 8” Lino block print ‘Nixie Tubes’ on Japanese paper shows 4 Nixie tubes in a row spelling ‘Neon’. Each glass tube is printed in silver and looks like a cylinder with a top like an onion dome. Inside the tubes you can see some hardware for holding the anode and cathodes shaped to produce alphanumeric characters. On top of this is a reddish orange rectangle, a black honeycomb mesh anode and shadow round the base of the tubes and in bright pale orange the letters N, e, o, and n on the series of tubes.

The clock : it uses german Z5600M tubes and 4 small neon lamps, the brains are an Arduino UNO R4 Wifi with the Arduinix (arduinix.com/) shield. It connects to my Wifi Accesspoint on startup and every friday to (re)synchronize. If you power it up while pressing the button, it will create an access point and a webpage, from which you can set up your local wifi info.

@jmw sad that it took that much effort to convince PayPal that it was a scam, but great that you got your money back— I dearly want one of these #nixietube clocks but can’t yet convince myself to drop $200-500 on one. So weird that they’ll send you an actual product… I wonder if most people just go “oh well, at least I got something” and they don’t care?

Received a targeted ad somewhere leading to a #scam webpage that’s a copy of a legit product (a #nixietube clock), but at a “too good to be true” price. Before I figured out it was a scam I emailed their product support asking why there was a large/x-large option but no difference in size (just a difference in price). Scammers response is attached but it’s a silly non-answer.

Product support email that reads: Thanks for your support and concern on our store. Our product and description of the advertisement are consistent.
