You probably know that the Telugu song “Naatu Naatu” from the movie RRR won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Rihanna and Lady Gaga are good, but this song deserved its win being a banger and with a crazy dance choreography.
The bit of trivia about “Naatu Naatu” that I really enjoy is that its movie scene was filmed at the Mariinskyi Palace, where President Zelenskyy of Ukraine lives. I’d like to think that the Oscar win is another middle finger to Putin.

I was going to gripe and ask if “Naatu Naatu” would have been nominated if it weren’t for its fantastical staging in the film. But looking at the other nominees…
The Diane Warren, Rihanna and Lady Gaga songs were all the same generic ballad. EEAAO’s “This Is A Life” was a beautiful song that reflected the movie’s grand themes, but ran only during the closing credits. So “Naatu Naatu” really is the most interesting musical moment in 2022 movies.
