We're kicking off season 2 of the NGI Zero podcast with Armijn Hemel of DeviceCode. The electronics industry works differently than most people think. Behind the different brands and casings is often the same hardware, created by a single factory.
But security issue disclosure focuses on single devices, so vulnerabilities in similar devices go unnoticed.
DeviceCode uncovers the hidden patterns of the electronics industry to improve security.

@josemurilo Good points :)

@volkris the issue with your comment is that the #Fediverse comes from a long history, and it embodies this history, which is where the value comes from.

Yes, it comes from meany sub cultures, these are better described as communities rather than users. Hope that makes sense.

Keeping mess is grassroots cultural, allowing it to be messy is neoliberal #mainstreaming?

I agree with your point about the devs and funding from #NGI and #NLnet an on rolling mess.

🚀 Building an online community is harder than ever—unless you have a plan.

#NLnet #EU #NGI #NGIzero – Will We Get It Right This Time? hamishcampbell.com/nlnet-eu-ng let’s ask again: Has #NLnet and the #EU stepped up this time? Are we funding the future, or are we just shuffling papers while the #deathcult eats our humanistic heritage and the last remains of the #openweb?

the good folks over at #NGI seem to be set on IPFS a solution to all trust-less p2p data distribution problems. However I’ll try and convince them that alternative solutions are probably healthy to try out.

#NLnet is definitely not dead-set on IPFS.

> I just want the simple parts (connecting and exchange) to be layered separately from the routing parts. IPFS does actually do a lot of layering. I don’t follow hypercore and other stuff very much, but I don’t recall seeing much layering.

NixOS Discourse · Should IPFS be used as a source for fetchurl in Nixpkgs?Yes, you can fetch directly from SWH, but then it isn’t clear how to do so as a substitutor without more changes to nix. Conversely, you can use the IPFS gateway without having IPFS installed — that has improved since we did the Nix IFPS work so we could add support for that. SWH is supposed to be an archive of last resort to potentially tons of people flooding their API with similar requests just waste’s the non-profit’s bandwidth. IPFS however can act as a CDN.
