The “Wester moskee” (Wester Mosque) is a large mosque in the “De Baarsjes” area in West. Built in Ottoman style, it has a big dome and minaret. Finished in 2015, it mixes Dutch and Turkish design and is one of the biggest mosques in the Netherlands. 🇳🇱 🇹🇷 🕌

The mosque is linked to Diyanet, a Turkish government group that sends imams abroad. This connection has raised questions about Turkish influence (the long arm of The State). Still, the mosque mainly focuses on prayer, religion, and community, and there’s no sign it supports radical ideas. 🙏

The beautiful interior of the #Yenicami, or New #Mosque, in the #eminonu neighbourhood of #Constantinople, present day #Istanbul, #Turkey. The several #domes and half-domes, typical of #Ottoman religious #architecture (itself of course based on the earlier #Byzantine architecture) make for a very spiritual experience when inside.
