Pamela Oliver<p>I've written a blog post that is a preliminary draft of a paper about the importance of the organizing of the 1995 <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/MillionManMarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MillionManMarch</span></a> in constructing coalitional unity. I'm interested in getting feedback from people who might know something about this topic. <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/BlackHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BlackHistory</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/SocialMovements" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SocialMovements</span></a> @sociology @politicalscience <a href="https://www.ssc.wisc.edu/soc/racepoliticsjustice/2023/01/29/organizing-the-million-man-march/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">ssc.wisc.edu/soc/racepoliticsj</span><span class="invisible">ustice/2023/01/29/organizing-the-million-man-march/</span></a></p>

Pamela Oliver<p>Next going through the articles in the <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/MillionManMarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MillionManMarch</span></a> in our data. Figured out how to extract them from the database into both Stata and Word so I can do both quantitative and qualitative analysis. Organize them by date and newswire vs. Black news. What did the articles say? It took me about two days to get the articles organized and parts of a very rough draft of findings/patterns written up. Findings seem interesting. Pressing ahead. <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Research</span></a> <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/WritingProcess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WritingProcess</span></a></p>
Pamela Oliver<p>Check the <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/Literature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Literature</span></a> on the <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/MillionManMarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MillionManMarch</span></a>. Review articles I've already found. Search SocIndex, find almost nothing in @sociology . Check Google Scholar. Find a little more. Check the references in books I've read, find a little more, including angles &amp; have not thought of in @politicalscience. Still not a lot. Maybe there is a paper here, although I think the main pattern is well recognized in what has been written.</p>
Pamela Oliver<p><a href="https://sciences.social/tags/WritingProcess" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WritingProcess</span></a> The plan is to write up short empirical pieces for blogs or preprints, then work it into a more formal paper. Empirics on <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/NewsCoverage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewsCoverage</span></a> of <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/MillionManMarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MillionManMarch</span></a> will be interesting even if there's nothing new to add to theory or analysis.</p>
Pamela Oliver<p>Wondering whether anyone is interested in an ongoing thread about the process of <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/DataCleaning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DataCleaning</span></a> and <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/PaperWriting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PaperWriting</span></a> in our project about <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/NewsCoverage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewsCoverage</span></a> of <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/BlackProtest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BlackProtest</span></a> in mainstream newswires and Black newspapers. Lots of data to clean (~10K articles &amp; ~10K events), so looking for ways to get papers along the way. We clean data by issue cluster, so I reviewed the <a href="https://sciences.social/tags/MillionManMarch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MillionManMarch</span></a> articles &amp; decided to see if there is a paper about that. I think I saw some interesting patterns.</p>
