The redone Rockefeller gallery at the #MetMuseum is open, and it’s wonderful. Completely fixes everything I didn’t like about the old one. Gone is the sense of just lumping together a bunch of “tribal” art that wasn’t culturally connected. Africa, Oceania and the Americas are much more clearly separated, and even within, say, Oceania, each culture’s art is kept together, and cultures that are more closely related to each other are grouped near each other, so that you can see how similar traditions played out differently between them.

They have also added some contemporary pieces made by artists in these traditions, making the point that these cultures and traditions aren’t just in the past—they’re ongoing.

I couldn’t see nearly all of it—it’ll reward multiple visits. #nyc

“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” was a really interesting exhibit. I don’t know from fashion, but I appreciated the way they put the pieces into historical context and tried (as much as they could, given how Black names have been historically erased) to elevate people who would otherwise be forgotten. #metMuseum

Rycina z Mingów? Ten uroczy nosorożec to nie pluszak, a realistyczny kałamarz z brązu inspirowany żywym zwierzęciem! Zobacz go na wystawie „Recasting the Past” w MET, gdzie chińskie brązy ożywają na nowo jako akt twórczy, a nie wierna kopia. Do 28 września! #sztukachin #brązepatynowane #METmuseum
